Road Closure Notice – Chestnut Hill Road

Upper Saucon Township has contracted with Barwis Construction to perform road repairs and road construction on Chestnut Hill Road from West Hopewell Road to Lori Court. Preparation work will begin on or about Monday, March 9. Paving will begin on or about March 23. During the paving portion Chestnut Hill Road will be closed DAILY, Monday thru Friday between the hours of 7AM and 5PM starting on Monday, March 23 and ending on or about Wednesday, April 8th.

Residents will be able to come and go from their homes during construction but should be aware that they may need to wait for workers to move equipment out of the way.

Please keep in mind the road closure could last longer than anticipated due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather and equipment breakdowns. During the closure, all traffic will be directed to follow posted detour routes utilizing Blue Church Road and Limeport Pike.

A plan showing the detour route is available on the Township website.

Motorists should anticipate delays, especially during peak travel times, and use caution driving through the area.

Notice is hereby given that the regular public meeting of the Zoning Hearing Board (ZHB) of Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, is scheduled at the Municipal Building located at 5500 Camp Meeting Road, Center Valley, PA on Monday March 2, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. for the purpose of hearing the following appeals:

APPEAL NO. 2020-02: Jewish Community Center (Owners), 2201 W. Tilghman Street, Allentown, PA 18104 and Tree Course Adventures (Applicant), PO Box 82, Shawnee-On-Delaware, PA 18356. The property identified as Tax Map Parcel No. 640447704115 1 and 5831 Vera Cruz Road, Center Valley, PA 18034, is 55.59 acres in size and is located within the South Mountain Conservation (SMC) Zone. The Applicant requests variances from Sections 200.B and 516 of the 2009 Upper Saucon Township Zoning Ordinance to permit the establishment of an Adventure/Ropes Course, a use not permitted in the SMC Zone and to allow minor removal of trees to accommodate the proposed use.

APPEAL NO. 2020-04: Calvary Bible Fellowship Church (Owners/Applicants), 6782 N. Main Street, Coopersburg, PA 18036. The property identified as Tax Map Parcel No. 642440135288 1 and 6782 N. Main Street, Coopersburg, PA 18036, is 5.27 acres in size and is located within the Suburban Residential (R-2) Zone. The Applicant requests variances from Sections 1527 and 1534.B of the 1986 Upper Saucon Township Zoning Ordinance as amended by Ordinance 79-OO, to not provide a required perimeter landscape buffer which would not be required for a permitted non-residential use in the R-2 Zone under the 2009 Zoning Ordinance.

Local Wildlife

Upper Saucon Wildlife

There have been some posts on various social media sites about coyotes and other wildlife. The Environmental Advisory Council is working with the Pa Game Commission to hold a presentation in the near future on these native species of animals and our impact on their habitat. More information will follow.

WildlifeHelp has a very good website to learn more about wild animals in our area and what to do if you encounter them.

Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting February 11, 2020 is Cancelled

Public Notice: The Upper Saucon Township Parks and Recreation Committee Meeting scheduled for 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 11 is cancelled.

The next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 6:00 pm.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Proposed Ordinance Establishing a Speed Limit on Certain Roads in the Township

PUBLIC NOTICE

Notice is hereby provided that the Board of Supervisors of the Township of Upper Saucon intends to consider passage of proposed Ordinance No. 67-XX at a public meeting to be held on the 6th day of January, 2020, commencing at 6:30 P.M. Said public meeting shall take place at the Township Municipal Building located at 5500 Camp Meeting Road, Center Valley, PA. The following constitutes the full text version of proposed Ordinance No. 67-XX:

LEHIGH COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA

ORDINANCE NO. 67-XX

AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE TOWNSHIP OF UPPER SAUCON, LEHIGH COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 67, AS AMENDED, ESTABLISHING A 25 MILE PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT ON TILGHMAN STREET AND A 30 MILE PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT ON CARLTON ROAD IN UPPER SAUCON TOWNSHIP

The Board of Supervisors of the Township of Upper Saucon, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, enacts and ordains as follows:

SECTION I: SECTION 7A: SPEED LIMITS ESTABLISHED, is hereby amended to add the following:

This Ordinance shall become effective five (5) days after passage.

DULY ENACTED AND ORDAINED this day of 2020, by the Board of Supervisors of the Township of Upper Saucon, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, in lawful session duly assembled.
