We are pleased to announce that the intersection project is close to being completed. Unfortunately, the overall project was delayed by about 2 months because of COVID related issues mostly due to lack of construction materials and some logistical and manpower shortages.
The remaining work will include completing the Northbound 309 turning lane, which could not be done until the new traffic signals were installed, installation of impact attenuators and final paving, final signal head adjustments and installation of signage and line striping.
The project widened route 309 by constructing a northbound left turn lane, realigned, and widened Lanark Road to provide an exclusive eastbound left-turn lane and shoulders, realigned, and widened Camp Meeting Road to include a westbound left-turn lane and shoulders, installed new traffic signals, emergency vehicle detectors, channelized right-turn islands and upgrade existing storm water facilities. Work for the project was awarded to Blooming Glen Contractors in the amount of $1.36 million in August of 2021.
Route 309, Lanark, and Camp Meeting Roads are PennDOT owned and maintained roadways, however the work was undertaken by the Township to mitigate traffic issues due to the unconventional intersection design. PennDOT provided a one-million-dollar grant towards the construction and Upper Saucon and the Southern Lehigh School District split the remaining cost equally.
Work is anticipated to be complete on October 29th.
