Public Presentation – Zinc Mining in Friedensville and the Birth of the US Zinc Industry

Mark Connar’s presentation will provide us with an overview of the Friedensville Mines in the 19th and 20th centuries and efforts now underway to preserve the 19th century mining property and the historic features that still exist on the location. Mark is a retired businessman with an AB degree in anthropology from Brown University with post-graduate study in archaeology at the University Museum, University of Pennsylvania. He also holds an MBA degree from Lehigh University, is on the Board of Trustees, Historic Bethlehem and is a founding member of the National Museum of Industrial History. Mark is also a member of the Mining History Association and the Society for Industrial Archaeology.
