Q. Will I notice any changes once the PA Uniform Construction Code takes effect?
A. Well, it depends. Effective July 1, 2004, the PA Uniform Construction Code (UCC) will be enforced in Upper Saucon Township. In many ways, not much will change, since Upper Saucon has had a building code, required building permits, and had a building inspector to enforce the code for many years now. Also, the new Code is based largely on the International Code—formerly the BOCA code—which is the code that has been used by Upper Saucon.
However, once the UCC takes effect, many projects that formerly required a Building Permit—such as decks, patios, sheds, and even some garages—will now require a Zoning Permit instead. There will be a $25 flat fee charged for a Zoning Permit, regardless of the square footage of the project.
To find out whether you need a Building Permit or a Zoning Permit for your project, contact Building Inspector Ned Leibensperger at 610.282.1171 ext. 227, or Zoning Officer Trent Sear at 610.282.1171 ext. 254.
