This all-volunteer fire department has been serving the residents of Upper Saucon Township since 1953. In addition to fire protection, the Department also provides the following services:

  • Search and Rescue
  • Extrication and Vehicle Rescue
  • Confined Space Rescue
  • Trench Rescue
  • Fire police functions

The Department currently has 24 active fire fighters and 6 fire police. These dedicated volunteers routinely put themselves at risk to protect the lives and property of their neighbors and those traveling through the community. Our volunteer fire fighters spend countless hours each year practicing fire fighting techniques and training with sophisticated equipment. The State of Pennsylvania recently recognized the Department for having 75 percent of its members certified to National Professional Qualification Standards. There are only a few departments in the entire state that have achieved this level of recognition.

The Fire Department also strives to prevent fires from happening through education and community awareness programs. Each year fire fighters visit local schools to teach youngsters how to avoid fire dangers. In addition, the Department holds an annual open house where residents can tour the firehouse and get expert instruction on using fire detectors and devising a fire escape plan. The open house is held in conjunction with national fire prevention week each October.

The Department is in need of more volunteers due to the Township's growing population and increasing demand for services. For information on becoming a volunteer fire fighter or fire police, please contact the Upper Saucon Township Volunteer Fire Department at (610) 791-0266. Both day and night shifts are available.
