UPPER SAUCON TOWNSHIP RECYCLES COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHTBULBS! To encourage the recycling of energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, PPL Electric Utilities has given a special recycling container to Upper Saucon Township.
Just bring your used bulb(s) to the reception area of the Municipal Township Building during office hours and we will dispose of them for you. If possible, please put the used bulb in a small cardboard container/box or sealed plastic bag. Although compact fluorescent light bulbs use about 75 percent less energy than standard incandescent light bulbs, last up to 10 times longer and generate far less heat (which helps save money on cooling costs), special handling is needed for disposal. They contain a very small amount of mercury - about 100 times less than in older thermometers or about one-fifth the amount found in a watch battery. ROAD WORK NOTICE: Route 309 widening project The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that work will begin Feb. 24 on the $6.75 million project to widen Route 309 in Coopersburg and Upper Saucon Township. Temporary traffic signals will be erected on Feb. 24 and be placed at the intersections of Route 309 with Station Avenue and Springfield Street. Initial work will last about three weeks and will affect traffic weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. PennDOT will provide updates whenever lane restrictions or traffic pattern changes are scheduled. The project will widen Route 309 about 760 feet north of the Upper Saucon Township/Coopersburg line to the Bucks County line. The project will add left turn lanes at the intersections of Route 309 at Station Avenue, Landis, Fairmont and Thomas streets, and restrict left turn movements from Route 309 at all other non-signalized intersections. Traffic signals will be updated, curbs and sidewalks will be installed and minor drainage improvements will be completed. Pedestrian crosswalks will be installed at the intersections of Route 309 and Station Avenue, Landis and Fairmont streets. Median islands will be installed on Route 309 between Station Avenue and Fairmont Street. For more information on this and other PENNDOT projects, click here. |
