WATER SYSTEM FLUSHING

The Upper Saucon Township Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants on the following days:

Monday, May 16, 2011

Hydrants will be flushed from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM each day.  You may experience a period of cloudy and/or discolored water and/or a momentary pressure fluctuation during the late evening or early morning hours. Please understand that these conditions are temporary and any questions should be directed to the Upper Saucon Township Water Department at 610-694-8680.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Act 537 Plan Revision

Upper Saucon Township is advertising the proposed update to the Act 537 Sewage Facilities Plan to provide sewage facilities to the proposed Old Saucon development. The hearing will be held on Monday, June 6 at 6pm at the Board of Supervisors Meeting. Please look here for the full advertisement.

New Calendar Format

Upper Saucon Township has moved to a new format for the calendar. Using the Google Calendar enables us to easily update the recurring monthly meeting dates and times, make any cancellations and changes, and also allows you to subscribe to the calendars, to keep track of meetings and events. At this time, we will post a couple different calendars: Monthly Meetings, Events, and Yard Waste Center. Please subscribe to the ones that work best for you.

Garden Tour 2011Not-So-Secret Gardens Tour

On Saturday, June 18, from 9am - 3pm, go on a self-guided to of 6 private local gardens, and stop by the library for a sale of live plants, garden items, and gantly used books.

Tickets are on sale starting May 2 at the Southern Lehigh Public Library.

SAUCON RAIL TRAIL IS NOW OPEN!Saucon Rail Trail
We are pleased to announce that the Upper Saucon Township portion of the Saucon Rail Trail is now open for public use! This 2-mile section is open from the Community Park on Preston Lane to the Lower Saucon Township line.

Please obey all posted rules, and come out for our official Opening Day Ribbon Cutting on Saturday, June 11, at 10am.


NEW WATER RATES IN EFFECT
The Township has instituted new water billing rates, effective the first billing period of 2011. For more information, please see the new water rates, and the letter discussing the rate increase.

LOST DOG FOUND
Lost Dog on April 4, 2011On Sunday, April 3, 2011, a resident on Waterford Drive in Center Valley found a lost dog. Currently, this dog is located at THE SANCTUARY AT HAAFSVILLE.

UPPER SAUCON TOWNSHIP RECYCLES COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHTBULBS!UPPER SAUCON TOWNSHIP RECYCLES !

Rechargeable Batteries, Cell Phone, and CFL Bulb Recycling

Upper Saucon Township has partnered with PPL Electric Utilities and Call2Recycle to collect and discard your used CFL light bulbs, and rechargeable batteries and old cell phones. Just stop by the Township office during regular business hours and drop off your recyclable materials at the front desk. This service is free to Township residents. If possible, please put the used bulb in a small cardboard container/box or sealed plastic bag. To learn more about compact fluorescent light bulbs, please click here.

Paper Recycling

Abitibi Paper Retriever BinUpper Saucon Township continues to work with Abitibi-Bowater on the fundraising paper recycling program known as “PAPER RETRIEVER. This free service is offered to the community to collect and recycle your paper products and turn them into newsprint paper in a matter of weeks.

Bring your recyclable paper materials to the green and yellow Paper Retriever bins in the parking lot at the Township Municipal Building on Camp Meeting Road or at the Southern Lehigh Public Library on Preston Lane.  Materials may be deposited 24 hours a day at both locations.

The following items CAN be placed in the bins: Newspapers; Magazines; Copy, fax or colored paper; Junk mail; Envelopes; File folders; Shopping catalogs; Shredded paper in bags. Plastic, glass, metal, trash, or other unspecified paper propducts are not accepted.

Earned Income Tax (EIT) and Local Services Tax (LST) collector
The Southern Lehigh School District, along with the Borough of Coopersburg, Lower Milford Township, and Upper Saucon Township has appointed Berkheimer Associates as the Earned Income Tax (EIT) and Local Services Tax (LST) collector, effective January 1, 2011. The Southern Lehigh EIT Office will not process nor collect the 2010 Earned Income Tax returns. Instead, residents will file their 2010 Earned Income Tax return with Berkheimer Associates. The Southern Lehigh Tax Office will remain open after January 1, 2011 only to process claims and to collect delinquent taxes. Berkheimer Associates will mail 2010 tax returns to residents, and can be contacted for tax forms and other information at:

PennDOT Announces Start of Economic Recovery Contract to Improve PA 378 in Lehigh County
Allentown - PennDOT Engineering District 5 today announced that a project to improve PA 378/Bethlehem Pike between PA 309 and Oakhurst Drive in Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County, will begin Monday, Nov. 8. The project is financed with federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

PennDOT awarded the $1,244,000 contract to Intercounty Paving Associates, LLC of Hackettstown, N.J.

The project calls for roadway patching, milling, paving, drainage improvements, new guiderail, and curb ramp upgrades. Construction is expected to finish in June 2011.

Work this fall and winter will mainly consist of drainage improvements and should not restrict travel lanes. Updates will be provided whenever traffic is impacted.

Within the six-county District 5 region, PennDOT will invest $141 million of federal economic recovery funds on transportation projects, which include road and bridge improvements and Intelligent Transportation System installations.

Please remember you can make your payment at your convenience, as you have access to the drop-off box 24 hours every day.
